All Things Dr. Seuss-A Little Of This & A Little Of That

“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!”-Dr. Seuss

It’s All Things Dr. Seuss!

So, let’s jump right in! Yes, I’m doing a Dr. Seuss post again! It’s another round of great big fun, so sit right down and see how it’s done! Just take a seat and put up your feet, I promise you’re in for a real big treat! It’s everything you want to see, thanks for hanging out with me! There’s so much more for us to explore. Costumes and signs, I wonder what else we might find? It’s a little of this and a little of that! What would you do with The Cat in the Hat? It’s the series that will never end! Dr. Seuss’s birthday comes again and again!

Check out these signs! They are so easy to make!

I have this really cool tool that helps make cutting the foam core board super simple! It’s a hot knife. You can click the Hot Knife link below to see where I found this really cool tool!

Supplies
  1. Blue, Orange, Green, & Red acrylic paint
  2. Sharpie
  3. Foam Poster Board
  4. PVC Pipe
  5. Hot Knife
First, you start with foam poster board and this free printable.

Print and cut the hand. Place the hand on your foam board and trace. I used a yard stick to draw the sign portion (keeping the sign portion and hand together as one piece). Then, cut out the signs with a Hot Knife. This little tool will make the job super easy and super fast. I use the hot knife blade attachment and slice right through the foam core like butter! Paint and let dry. Finally outline with a sharpie and write in your phrases. My husband made a PVC pipe stand and I just taped the signs to the stand. Easy Peasy!

    DIY Dr. Seuss Direction Sign

Here is another cute sign idea we made…you cannot leave the teachers out when it comes to all things Dr. Seuss!

DIY Silly Seuss Names Teacher Signs

We took some poster board and cut out a fun shape. Then we used paint to add a red boarder. We then added some silly names and a cute ribbon. At my sons school all the teachers have painted canvas names by their doors, so, we just swapped them out for Dr. Seuss week!

Now onto the decorations we made. The first year we used Cat and the Hat as our main theme in the cafeteria. The 2nd year we went with Green Eggs and Ham.

DIY Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham School Decorations

If you check back to an earlier post “All Things Dr. Seuss-How Does You Child’s School Celebrate“, you will see an overview of the cafeteria done in Cat in the Hat and how these decorations were made.

Dr. Seuss Sam I am I do like green eggs and ham

As you can see in this photo, we just opened the book for inspiration! We love those old style projectors. We just projected this image on paper taped to the wall and drew it out. We then cut out the image and shaded and bordered with sharpies. I’m talking a lot of sharpies! The images turned out to be a pretty big size, as you can see by how small the book looks.

    Cat In The Hat's Thing 1 & Thing 2

We couldn’t leave out the decorations we used the previous year. We found us another set of windows and made new scenes with the old decorations.

I know some of these photos are a bit dark but I still wanted to show the ideas. We decorated over the weekend and could not figure out how to get the lights turned on. I think they must be on some kinda timer. I will definitely make sure the rest of the pictures I take aren’t in the dark!

All Things Dr. Seuss Stage decorations

Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat stage decoration Dr. Seuss Stage Decoration Balloon Column

The stage was decorated with balloon columns, a roll of plastic tablecloth, and some paper from the giant rolls of paper the school has. The balloon columns were made with a wooden block and dowel rod. My hubby used an air compressor to blow up all the balloons. Then, you tie 2 together and wrap around the rod and twist. Push the balloons down the base then add the next set. I wasn’t sure if I could do this at first so I practiced with a curtain rod and some balloons I already had at home. No way was I gonna buy all those balloons before I attempted a test run! I would suggest using a skinny PVC pipe in place of the wooden dowel for sturdiness.

We took big pieces of cardboard and wrapped them in paper then we took Dr. Seuss letters we purchased and added cute quotes. By placing them on the board, it has made it much easier to store these for the next year.

How about a glimpse into my life before Dr. Seuss Week…

Little Miss Chanley as The Grinch and Mr Tate as Horton!

Dr. Seuss One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish Costume Collage

Check out this amazing costume idea! One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish! How creative is that! Tate is dressed as the blue fish and Chanley as the red fish. When I asked Trissa how she made the costume, she said “Haha! Girl, I do things so crazy free handed and free minded with trial and error. I don’t even know if my directions would make sense.” Let me give you some of the supplies she used for the fish bowl-clear tablecloth plastic fabric, blue tissue paper, 2 hula hoops, wire hangers, velcro, and modge podge for gluing. Seriously, that’s all she used. How in the world she ever came up with that? It must be that free minded thing she was telling me about! lol! Big thanks to Trissa and Amber for letting me post these amazing costume ideas!

Dr. Seuss Read Across America Week

This is the entrance into the school. It’s the first thing you see. We put up a sign that says take a walk through a page of your favorite Dr. Seuss book. Anywhere we put scenes throughout the school we also put up a copied page from the book showing where the scene came from.

Thanks for sticking with me till the end! I hope I’ve made some brand new friends! I hope this little peek is just what you need to get through Dr. Seuss week!

There are lot’s more ideas for you to see…. It’s All Things Dr. Seuss!
